Manx Legion Douglas Branch 1918 Brief History
Manx Legion Douglas Branch 1918 (Manx District) was formed on the 7th July 1918 there first ever meeting took place in Town Hall Chambers which elected their President, Chief Officers and Committe, meeting again at the end of month in a hotel in Walpole Ave where the the articles of Assocaition were made registered with Companies Registry.
During that time they found hired a large room in the Star Hotel in September to use for branch meetings and as a club when there no meetings and employed a steward and waitress by christmas the membership was 1000 and opened a second big room.
This was to be there home from 1918 to 1958 where moved to Finch Road and in 1985 move to where is are now the Old Market Hall Market hill. The Manx Legion Douglas Branch LTD as now reached this year there 100 years as has two anniveries one the Branch was 100 years on 7th July 2018 and and Club 100 years old on 14th September 2018 and still going strong due forsight of our forefathers and mothers.
100 years on, still maintianing its principles, ethos, combining both the veterans and civilian communities together with the same aims, precepts of when it was founded in 1918
